I refuse to do aerobic stuff, but I wanna build muscles and lose weight. Ideas?

Umpalumpa asked:

I feel like I’m going to quit gym because Aerobic stuff is boring and time consuming. All I want is lose some fat and build muscles.
I’m M/35, 6ft tall, 210 lbs and I look good, but I wanna shred 10-15 pounds AND build some muscles.

Is there a way to do this without doing any of that aerobic boring stuff?

nope, you have to do the boring cardiovascular stuff to shed pounds. Unfortunately if it were fun and easy there would probably be a low fewer people with weight issues here, haha :) Maybe try jumping rope for 3-5 minutes in between sets of weights? This way by the end you are getting in a good amount of cardio but not having to run on a treadmill for 45 minutes at a time.

Do weight training. As you build muscle you will tone and your metabolism will increase and you’ll lose fat, faster than a woman would because of your body mass. As you build lean mass every activity will burn more calories, even walking to your car.
Aerobic will lose fat faster, but for a guy your size, strength training will do the trick for you.

To lose weight, you need cardiovascular (aerobic) workouts. To build muscle, you need to lift weights regularly. To do both, you need a combination of the two.

I agree, doing aerobic workouts at the gym is boring. Few people actually enjoy running on a treadmill or sitting on a stationary bike for an hour. Use variety to your advantage. Go for a run outside in a park or someplace scenic. Find a running buddy who you can chat with as you workout - you can hold each other accountable and make sure you get the work done. If you have a dog (or can steal a friend’s), take him along for company. Go for a nice long bike ride, go hiking, or snowshoeing. If you have access to a good pool, swimming laps is a good workout. Or join a local sports team or club, it’s good exercise and a lot more fun than working out alone. Try taking a fitness class (yes, men do take fitness classes) in something you’ve never done before.

Being fit doesn’t mean you spend all of you time on the treadmill in the gym like a hamster on a wheel. You can get out and have fun and still get into great shape.

Cardio is boring because people tend to do the same thing over and over and over like just the stationary bike or just the treadmill. If you’re part of a gym I’m sure you know there are more than just those two types of exercises. You’re actually interested in doing the same kinds of exercises that I’m presently doing. I’ve got about 90 days worth of exercises mapped out and it’s looking pretty exciting. I workout six days a week but only for about thirty (very intense) minutes or so. Even my cardio days are about 25 minutes long with a warmup. The important part is training in intervals…it keeps things fresh and challenging. There’s so many things you can do that will keep you from feeling like a hamster on a wheel…I can’t stand that feeling. Anyway, not personally trying to sell you anything but I googled some specific workout routines a few weeks back and chanced upon this website that changed my workout habits drastically. It’s. They’ve got an e-book for about forty bucks that includes so much stuff…it’s scary for me to think of the exercises I’ll be doing by the end of it. Good luck and don’t waste your time isolating muscles…you’ll read about that if you check out the website.
