What are the signs for appendix bursting?

Kay08 asked:

Last night I was coughing when trying to fall asleep. It was a very mild cough attack, from being sick with flu. While coughing, I felt an extreme sharp pain in my lower right side by my pelvic bone to where it felt like it was shredding inside. The pain was so severe it hurt to breathe or even cough or move a certain way.

Today is not so bad but when I do certain movements or cough it’s extremely severe sharp pains.
Could it be my appendix that have busted or maybe just pulled a muscle?

WILLIAM

Pulled muscle. If you appendix burst yesterday and went untreated you would not be typing this question :)

You may have just pulled a muscle, or strained yourself. Sometimes when I cough, I get pains where you described them. I’m pretty sure if something inside you burst, you’d be hacking up blood and pretty much dead right now. If you’re still concerned, however, talk to a doctor. In fact, do that Anyway. Also, if you had the flu, you were vomiting, right? Vomiting can strain muscles, and coughing just makes it all the more worse.

Well i can tell you for sure your appendix did not Burst!
Secondly, the signs of appendicitis (inflammation of your appendix) is lower right pain, With a fever lasting over 24 hrs, vomiting, and the pain would not disappear but may become more extreme. But it is never a bad idea to call your doctor and let them know what you are experiencing.
Also just so you know when your appendix bursts, It can be fatal and need immediate emergency surgery. And you will take yourself to the ER cause the pain with be probably the worst you will ever experience.

I Had my appendix taken out when i was like 3 because i had an apple and when it fell on the sidewalk outside i picked it up and ate it. couple days later I felt pain in my right side, i got it chucked out and whent to the hospital. i really don’t remember alot cause it was a really long time ago, although i still have a scar from it.
You should keep an eye on and tell your parents if you haven’t already if it doesn’t get any better you need to see a doctor for it. IDK if that helped any at all.
    Hope u’ll feel better soon!

If it bursted then all the toxins would have travelled through your bloodstreams and you would die, it is also an extremely painful feeling, trust me you would know if it exploded.
Pain that starts from the belly button and then slowly radiates to the right side of your stomach is a classic example of appendicitis, do you also feel nauseated?
If it doesn’t hurt as much anymore then everything is fine i guess, i doubt that your appendix is infected..but you should get it checked just incase! :-)

mine burst in october, and it you have only minutes to live if they burst
i went to the emergency room and they put me in surgery 5 minutes after i got there i was vomiting and the worst pain of my life was in the bottom of my abdomen i thought i had the flu but i almost died from appendicitis
oh and i was feeling sick the day before because my appendix had not burst YET. so pay no mind to people that say it’s not your appendix they can burst at anytime after the symptoms begin mine began then 12 hours later they burst they burst while i was in the ER

If you fear it may be appendicitis (infection/inflammation of the appendix) or that it could have burst (which generally takes time for it to happen after developing appendicitis) you need to get to an ER right away or tell someone in your family to take you to the hospital. If it ONLY hurts when you cough that’s one thing. But the pain from appendicitis is NOT always severe.

    *****************
    Appendicitis

The main symptom of appendicitis is belly (abdominal) pain. The pain can feel like indigestion or like you need to have a bowel movement or pass gas. Many people feel the first pain near the belly button. Then it moves to the lower right side of the belly. But the pain can be in different parts of your belly or even on your side. The pain may get worse if you move, walk, or cough. You may also have a fever or feel sick to your stomach.

Many people who have had appendicitis say the pain is hard to describe. It may not feel like any pain you have had before. It may not even be a very bad pain, but you may feel like something is wrong. If you have moderate belly pain that does not go away after 4 hours, call your doctor. If you have severe belly pain, call your doctor right away.

    You may have appendicitis if:

    * You have pain in your belly. The pain may begin around your belly button.
    * The pain in your belly gets stronger and moves below your belly button on your right side (the lower right quadrant). This is the most common place to feel pain when you have appendicitis.
    * The pain does not go away and gets worse when you move, walk, or cough.
    * You have pain in any part of your belly or on your side.
    * You feel nauseated or throw up a few times. You also may not feel like eating.
    * You have constipation, back pain, a slight fever, or a swollen abdomen.

Pain in the abdomen is very common.

There are also many conditions with symptoms similar to appendicitis. But because appendicitis can become serious in a short amount of time, call your doctor right away if you have any of the symptoms listed above. Treatment is much easier if the appendix has not ruptured. In most people, the appendix does not rupture until they have felt sick for at least 24 hours.

i had to answer this question… my appendix burst 4 years ago and i waited to go to the hospital for DAYS.(although this was VERY RARE, it is possible).. so it is very possible that you could be typing this message. if you dont have a fever, and severe vomiting then i doubt that you did.

    all the best
